Canada's defense minister says fighter jets were scrambled to intercept
a Russian bomber in the Arctic on the eve of President Barack Obama's
visit to Ottawa last week.
A bunch of prominent liberal activist groups and blogs have formed a
new PAC which aims to "use primaries to hold incumbents to account,"
according to the group's press release, challenging "vulnerable members
of Congress who side with corporate interests instead of constituents." This is the critical part of Accountability Now's mission: The extent
to which they truly do try to back candidates appropriate for their
districts. Democrats have built congressional majorities not by trying
to support a specific type of candidate but by looking for people whose
views reflect their constituents'. Pushes for ideological purity end
with cohesive minority parties—ask the GOP.
After $787 billion for a stimulus plan, $700 billion for a financial
markets bailout, and $410 billion for a proposed end-of-2009 spending
plan, getting folks fired up about whether the 2010 budget is $3.6 trillion rather than, say, $6.3 trillion is not just a political challenge; it’s a cognitive one.
Don't joke around about marriage!!!! Seriously!
Lobbying is nowhere near dead...its actually as big as it ever was
Tactical successes against al Qaeda have basically given Washington a
pass on the difficult strategic question of whether it's in America's
long-term interest to pursue policies in the Middle East that Washington itself admits generates radicalism.
Get ready to whip out your checkbooks if she has her way
Americans need to decide whether they want the European-sized
government that President Obama is promising — with all its damaging
effects on individual freedom and economic growth — or whether they
want to return to the greater prosperity of the smaller-government
Clinton years.
Aiding the Mexican government's fight against drug cartels is a top
priority that demands the "utmost attention" of U.S. security
officials, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said yesterday,
announcing new steps aimed at preventing the spillover of violence into
the United States. Mexican President Felipe Calderón's sweeping
crackdown on narco-traffickers has triggered a desperate backlash of
violence "of a different degree and level than we've ever seen before,"
Napolitano said in her first appearance before the House Homeland
Security Committee. "It is something that deserves our utmost attention
right now," she said.
When a cell of 10 Islamic militants stole into the Indian port city
of Mumbai in November and began to unleash a fusillade of hell on two
hotels, a train depot in rush hour and a Jewish center, US spooks
scrambled to make sense of it all. About 20 analysts from across the
globe immediately convened - not in the same room, but on two
classified Web sites called Intellipedia and A-space.Think of it as Wikipedia and Facebook for spies.

They worked on Droids in Star Wars, so why not an al-Qaeda communications center. "They" are electro-magnetic grenades -- not something you'll find in
the typical armory but apparently something that could soon be in the
hands of GIs. "EMP grenade technology is out there, but I've never had my hands on
one," said Col. Laurie Buckhout, chief of the newly formed Electronic
Warfare Division, Army Operations, Readiness and Mobilization, during a
bloggers roundtable Tuesday from the Pentagon.
Elie Wiesel, the Nazi concentration camp survivor who went on to win
the Nobel Peace Prize, showed little inclination this week to make
peace with accused swindler Bernie Madoff, whom he called "one of the
greatest scoundrels, thieves, liars, criminals."
So much for morality in healthcare...this is sad
With its slim white body and glowing amber tip, it can easily pass
as a regular cigarette. It even emits what look like curlicues of white
smoke. The Ruyan V8, which produces a
nicotine-infused mist absorbed directly into the lungs, is just one of
a rapidly growing array of electronic cigarettes attracting attention
in China, the U.S. and elsewhere — and the scrutiny of world health
officials.
In 1971, an innovative system of cybernetic information management and
transfer began developing in Chile during the government of President
Salvador Allende; the CYBERSYN project, cybernetic synergy or SYNCO,
information and control system.
The city is a composite of impressions. Beyond the built environment,
it is a constantly changing pastiche of associations and
experiences—not just of the people who inhabit it, but of the larger
community. Pastiche is a dynamic data visualization that maps keywords
from blog articles to the New York neighborhoods they are written in
reference to, geographically positioned in a navigable, spatial view.
Keywords are assigned based on relevance and recency, surrounding their
corresponding neighborhoods. The result is a dynamically changing
description of the city, formed around individual experiences and
perspectives.
As if you couldn't tell, if you made it this far, I had a pretty non-eventful evening. The high point of my evening was getting out and spending some quality time with the hound dogs. For some reason I find spending time with the pups to be really relaxing. I think it might have something to do with the fact that there are absolutely no demands when you go out there with them. I do feel like I'm at a point where I'm supposed to be (re)learning the whole patience thing. I find myself in a situation where I'm kinda hesitant to move forward, its like I get this vibe about the whole thing that's a little off-putting. But then there's the part of me that feels like there would be a big payoff. Ultimately I think I'm just going to play it cool and let the chips fall where they eventually may. I'm not interested in barging my way ahead and run the risk of screwing it up. But don't worry, I'm pretty sure I'll be keeping ya'll posted. You can almost take that to the bank ;-) lol
